Platelet Growth Factors
Your own blood, concentrated to heal.
What Is Platelet Therapy?
Platelets initiate clot formation and release growth factors that start the healing process. A patient's blood is drawn, processed to concentrate platelets, and injected into the painful area to initiate repair. These growth factors reduce inflammation and are fundamental to healing.

How It Works
Platelets bind to proteins (fibrinogen and fibrin) to create a clot gel matrix. Growth factors are released, reducing inflammation and initiating the healing process at the cellular level. Unlike corticosteroids which suppress healing, platelet growth factors actively regenerate tissue.
Conditions Treated
- TMJ dysfunction
- Cervical facet / whiplash pain
- Thumb arthritis
- Frozen shoulder
- Lumbar facet pain
- Joint, tendon & muscle pain
- Skin rejuvenation (hyperacute serum)
- Erectile dysfunction (P-shots)

Platelet Therapy Techniques
Not all platelet therapy is the same. Dr. McDougall selects the optimal preparation technique based on your specific condition and treatment goals.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Concentrates your own platelets to release high levels of growth factors, initiating natural tissue repair and reducing inflammation.
Platelet Lysate
A preparation where platelet membranes are opened to make healing factors immediately available for faster cellular repair.
Autologous Conditioned Serum
Concentrates healing proteins (cytokines) specifically designed to block pain-causing factors in joint and disc environments.
Platelet Rich Fibrin
Creates a biological "scaffold" that releases growth factors slowly over time, providing long-term structural support.
Hyperacute Serum
A fast-acting preparation that captures early-stage repair signals, ideal for acute injuries and specialized rejuvenation.
PRP vs. Corticosteroid Injections
Platelet Growth Factors
- ✓Activates tissue regeneration
- ✓Results improve over weeks/months
- ✓Strengthens tissue long-term
- ✓No systemic side effects
- ✓Uses your own biology
Corticosteroids
- Suppresses natural healing ability
- May cause thinning/weakening of tendons & bone
- Temporary relief with diminishing returns
- Potential to destabilize painful joints
- Risks of stomach, kidney, or heart issues (NSAIDs)
Multiple randomized controlled trials support platelet growth factors over corticosteroids for chronic tendon and joint conditions.[28] [30]
